Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6's Page

All children have the Right to an Education and it is vital to ensure that they are in school every day and on time to reach their full potential.

Doors open at 8:50am and it is expected that your child is in class ready to learn no later than 9:00am.

Our time table is jam- packed so good punctuality will make a big difference.

Reading at home

Reading at home is closely monitored daily to ensure a high percentage of the class reach a target of having read at home at least 3 times each week.  Progress in reading has a positive impact on all areas of the curriculum, so it is essential.

As a school we have invested a huge amount of money on books and the use of Accelerated Reading to engage children with short quizzes they take on ipads having read each book.  Please do everything you can to support your child with this.

Please ensure your child is reading at home every night for at least ten minutes and support us by signing their reading records.

PE  -  It is important that your child is prepared for PE lessons and has appropriate kit in school. - black shorts and a white t-shirt.

For outdoor games children can wear jogging bottoms if they wish to however they must have trainers or pumps.

Our sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Attendance  -  It is vital that your child is in school every day.

The school day starts at 8.50 and the first lesson begins when the children enter the classroom.

School finishes at 3.05pm.

Homework - is set each Friday in the form of a learning log task. The homework may ask your child to design, research or even create a model of something. Learning log tasks are based around work we have been completing in class, which will extend their learning or apply it to the real world. They will also be given additional maths and grammar activities.

Learning Log homework is due in on a Thursday.

Please support your child's education by ensuring they are having a go at their homework.

Spellings  -  Spellings are given out every Monday and tested on Friday. Use the look cover write site below to help learn spelling.  By the end of Y6 it is expected that your child can spell all the words on both the Y3/4 list and Y5/6 list.

Children will also take home SATs revision booklets.

Maths  -  Learning all of your times tables is always tricky but  key to succeeding in Maths!   Please ensure your child has completed their times table passport.
